| ‘Success in the saddle
is dependant on effort’ |
| (Sophocles
980 BC) |
|
In BBC speak, success can be measured
in many ways; the finish line, the top of the hill,
the amount of money raised, not running out of Vaseline
and still liking all the people in bright lurid spandex
at the end of the event. Also by the fact that you actually
want to repeat ‘the spandex experience’
(good name for a band?) annually. For me, success is
seeing all your happy faces at the start, at halfway
and particularly at the end (yes I know some plastic
sickly grins were contrived for the camera and some
were due to ‘wind’). Unexpected success
has also been the recent approach made by the real BBC
(the TV people) to make a programme about the event!!!!!
Working titles to date include; “I’m a Bouncy
Biker – Get Me Out Of Here!”, “Spokes
” (bit like ‘Spooks’ but funnier –
‘bounce alive not 9 till 5’) and “Scratch
of the Day”. |
 |
Michael Palin
has also expressed an interest if we can lend
him a bike! |
|
| |
| ‘Only by giving of ourselves
do we truly feel the joy of reward from suffering’
|
| (Confusus
600AD) |
|
In other words:
no pain - no gain (or in Norrie’s case at
Lochearnhead: no chain - no gain!). I’m
sure you have all forgotten the little aches and
pains you endured climbing the big hill out of
Aberfoyle, the wee bit of dampness at Kilmahog
and of course the combined withdrawal symptoms
of ‘saddle rash and vasaline’ (a new
kids cartoon?). However I know it wasn’t
always the ‘skoosh’ you guys made
it out to be!
|
 |
Thanks to your
wonderful efforts, this years event raised the
staggering total of:
£2948.49
|
|
Because of this incredible amount
we have been able to buy:
- Spotting Rig for the Trampoline (£400) –
installed and in use
- SupaKart (£700) – here and in use
- New Shower Chair Fund (£350) – on order
- New Bikes Fund (£1500) – 16 here and
in use
From all of us at the Centre please accept our genuine
thanks and please pass these thanks to your many sponsors
and let them know what they have helped to provide.

| ‘Sharing, is that slice
of the cake which tastes best’ |

“The team
that rides together – smiles together”,
and so it was with the BBC2 team as it was with
the BBC1 team as it will be with the BBC3 Team
(trust me!).
|
“There are many forks
in a fondue, but only one oil”, it is this oil
that binds the team together (most of Morag’s
chain oil is on the back of her legs still!).
“Life is the name of the
game, and I want to play that game with you”,
like the Magnificent Seven, Smokey and the Bandit and
of course Herbie, we will all ride again. (and Champion
the Wonder Horse!)
|
| |
‘Can you tell me where
I am?’ |
| (Clive –
lost in Callandar May 2004!) |
|
How easy it is to miss a critical
turn on the route when you are cycling along, without
a care in the world, in beautiful country areas, without
a map, blissfully unaware that the rest of the team
has gone for lunch at Kilmahog! Such is the peace of
the BBC. BBC3 will be ‘aired’ on Sat Dec
4th when the wonderful location will be revealed. The
dates will be May 27th – May 29th 2005. Fuller
details will land on your postal mat in the next few
days. I really hope you will join us again when the
Incredible Bouncy Bike Team mounts up again. On a very
personal note – thanks for your support and have
a great Christmas and New Year |
