A cheque has been handed
over to users of Badaguish Centre for £2,048 from
a successful 'Bouncy Bike Challenge' (BBC) sponsored
event held earlier this year by staff and their friends.
A group of 19 fundraisers cycled in
May across the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness
- around 80 miles - over two days to raise funds for
the centre by Glenmore which provides actvity and respite
break holidays for people with special needs and their
carers.
Some of the money has been used already
to by a special wheelchair bike that allows people who
are wheelchair bound to enjoy cycling around the forest
tracks by Badaguish. Mr Paul Corrigan, the events co-ordinator
at the centre and a member of the BBC team, said:
"We are really very grateful
to the 'BBC team' for the incredible amount of sponsorship
they raised. The Duet Wheelchair Bike will be extremely
popular with our visitors and give them the chance
to enjoy the surrounding countryside and forest tracks
alongsie the rest of the groups."
The team are already planning a second
Bouncy Bike Challenge in 2004 (BBC2) and will be given
details of the secret route by Mr Corrigan in the New
Year.
Other team members involved in the
fund-raiser included Paul's wife Morag, Rob and Janet
Knight, Rob and Heather Smith, Bill Espie, Morag Taylor,
Norrie McFarlane, Elaine Ormiston, Penny Grant (staff),
Ingtrid Derbyshire, Bob McLaren (staff), Simon Crouch
(staff), Emma Innes (staff) Colin Mair, Pam Forbes and
Carol Ferguson.
